San Antonio River Walk – Featured Art Prints

I’m featuring four art prints this week that I created from a photo shoot I did a couple of years ago from a visit my wife and I took to San Antonio. I hadn’t been to the River Walk since I was a young adult and my wife had never been. We had business in Austin and since the two cities are only about an hour and a half apart, we took a day for me to introduce her to the infamous River Walk. From that shoot, I used a two different watercolor techniques to soften up the images.

For those of you who have not had the pleasure of visiting the River Walk, it is along the San Antonio River in downtown San Antonio. It sits about one story below street level and winds throughout the downtown area. When you descend onto the River Walk, it feels like you have just entered another world. The hustle and bustle of street traffic disappears to the quiet of a peaceful river walk lined with restaurants and shops.

The first two pictures I created using a slightly abstract watercolor technique that creates small abstract shapes to “paint” the picture. They give you a better perspective of the walkway as it winds along both sides of the river. Love the trees as they shade all of the outdoor cafes.

The last two pictures, I used a more traditional watercolor technique giving you a view of two different outdoor cafes.

Thanks for the feedback Brad. It is such a beautiful setting and very historic with the Alamo being there also…got some great shots from the grounds of the Alamo (probably another post at some time). I also really enjoyed sharing it with my wife after all these years. Brought back a lot of memories!!

We so enjoyed our time in San Antonio and the Riverwalk area which now must be almost 15 years ago. My top pick of your pieces is the first where I feel like you swam into the water to gain that perspective. It’s very soothing and I hope you didn’t get too wet. Anything for the right photo. I think you taught me that actually.

You learn well, Sue…you learn well!! LOL. It is such a beautiful setting and so historical (history buff). I got some great (artistic) shots from the grounds of the Alamo…the adobe, garden lamps on the adobe walls…etc. I also really enjoyed being able to share it with my wife after all of these years….thanks for stopping by!

These are wonderful, Kirt. I was in San Antonio earlier this year and these images bring back some great memories.I think the River walk lends itself to many interpretations. it seemed almost surreal to me when I was there, like a fantasy world.

I was thinking of you when I did this post because of your recent time there. I have more of the adobe on the grounds of the Alamo, windows of the Alamo and the garden lamps hanging on the walls. Great photo ops as you know. I was happy to share so many of my memories of that area with my wife after all of these years. Thanks for stopping by Dan!

Thank you very much. I was surprised how many memories it brought back for me…when I was a teen we drive every Christmas Holiday from Iowa down to South Padre Island (my grandparents wintered there)…stopped in San Antonio many times to visit the Alamo and enjoy the river walk….was happy to be able to share that with my wife after all these years!!

Kirt, I enjoyed your photography and the way you captured the light in the one with the posts along the walk. The other photo I studied has the nice rock wall and you called it lunch above the river walk, it has a fantastic perspective.

The river walk looks like a great place to wander. I’d love to sit in that cafe under the trees with a glass of wine. You are an amazing artist Kirt – these prints are just brilliant.
