“Perseverance” Featured Art Print

I am featuring an art print from my Inspiration Gallery called “Perseverance” . This is a motivational poster using some of the photography  I took last year on a photo shoot in Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area just outside of Las Vegas. The picture shows some guys rock climbing in the canyon. What makes it interesting is that you don’t actually see the climbers initially. While I was taking the shot, I didn’t even catch them in my lens. It wasn’t until later when I was reviewing the shoot that I saw them. Once you see the climbers, the capture becomes even more impressive as your perspective of the size of the rock changes dramatically. Perseverance is the term that came to mind, so I created a motivational poster.

Luke Air Force Base 2014 Air Show – Excerpts from a Photo Shoot

A friend of mine and I attended the Air Show at Luke Air Force Base here in the Phoenix region two weeks ago. It was called Lightning in the Sky. Being familiar with air shows having lived north of MCAS Miramar in San Diego for many years, I knew that it would entail a great display of military aircraft old and new. The aerial acrobatics were incredible and the day was topped off by the infamous Blue Angles. All of that said, I thought it would be an interesting opportunity for a photo shoot of the different aircraft. Having never really focused on photographing airplanes and jets, I saw it as an opportunity to capture these proud birds with my artistic eye. I have attached 7 of the shots from that day in their raw form (no cropping). Not sure how I will take these and turn them into art prints, but I would assume a few will go into my Black and White Photography Gallery, a few to my Color Photography Gallery and some I will use as a basis for painting techniques. I will share some of the final art prints as I create them…enjoy!!

“Let His Light Shine” The Art Print of the Week

I added about 10 new art prints to my Inspiration Gallery.  “Let His light Shine Through You” is one of them. The scene is late afternoon in mid-February as the winter sun gets lower in the sky above a river valley in Iowa. Looking at the sun peeking out between the clouds, the message just kind of hit me. This is a gallery that marries my art work with either my thoughts or passages from the Bible. Combining the two elements can be challenging. Usually I will review my portfolio of art prints and wait for something to stand out or speak to me (like the Pier One commercial where the merchandise speaks to the shopper….I identify way to closely with that). I do the same thing with a message….sometimes something pops in my head or I might be reading a passage and it just hits me what art print to put it on. Not sure how it works, but when the two come together I “type” the words on the picture and move them around until they are positioned where I want them. This one was easier as I framed the print in black and positioned my thoughts on the bottom frame. Once they are positioned the “font” hunt begins…I will try numerous fonts to find one I think fits the look of the message and the art print. Probably more than you wanted to know, but the result in this case is attached below…..

Sepia Photography with a Splash of Red

As I mentioned in a prior post, I do a fair amount of custom work for clients. This past week I had another client request something in my Sepia Gallery. She was doing a room over and had this idea with some of my sepia photography. She told me which four prints she was interested in and that she wanted a splash of red in each of them. She picked out the objects she wanted painted and then with some proof reviews and discussions decided on the level of red. I was surprised at the  final result and even more surprised to find out that the room decor was for a bedroom with very modern soft simple lines and color.  When I think of sepia, I think rustic or vintage, but not modern. Apparently it worked as she sent me some photos of a couple of the pictures framed and said it pulled the room together just as she envisioned. So, lesson for the day…I’m not an interior designer, just a photographer and artist.  I have posted two of the four prints below from the originals, to splash of red results, to photo of them framed…..

If you look real close between this one and the next, she also had me remove the cat under the chair.

“Tropical Foliage” The Art Print of The Week

“Tropical Foliage” is the art print of the week. It’s from the collection in my Tropical Gallery. I started with taking a picture of a potted ornamental banana plant on our patio. From that original photograph, I created a couple of versions of this print. I did some oil painting techniques and then this watercolor. I like the way this one turned out as the watercolor technique gives the picture a softer look. Just so you can see the origin of the final product, I have attached the original picture. Enjoy!!

And the starting point…..

“Fountain Urns” Cropping an Art Print

I do a fair amount of custom work with my art prints. The other day, one of my clients contacted me with a request that I wanted to share. Her request concerned a series of art prints she purchased last year. One of the prints is the first one I am attaching. The scene is a fountain of large urns located on the estate of the Kuleto Winery in Northern California. The art print is done in an impasto style of oil painting which uses large dramatic brush strokes. The print is in a landscape format (longer width than height) and after months of looking at her print grouping, she realized it would look better with one of her prints being in a portrait mode instead of the landscape. The print in question is the one below.

Fountain Urns 1

So her request was “Can I have this in portrait format?”  My response was no problem….it will create totally different prints, but here is what I can do…

Fountain Urn 2

Fountain Urn 2

and the other print becomes……

Fountain Urn 3

Fountain Urn 3

By just cropping the art print differently, I have not only created two new art prints, but also given her the ability to keep a theme together on her wall and still mix/match landscape and portrait mode in her presentation.

“Eye of Sun” The Art Print of The Week

“Eye of Sun”  The Art print of the week is from my Tropical Gallery.  A sunset over the Pacific Ocean taken along the beach in Carlsbad, California (North San Diego County). I love the way the palm trees frame the sun as it goes down. I used an abstract oil painting technique to give it an edgy modern look to celebrate the vibrant colors.  Enjoy!

“Desert Botanical Garden – Chihuly Exhibit” Excerpts from a Photo Shoot

As a follow-up to last weeks photo excerpt post, I have attached three more shots from the Chihuly Exhibit at the Desert Botanical Garden here in Phoenix. I can’t help but admire the creativity in arranging these incredible pieces of art within the desert landscape.  The first picture is a surprise because it is nestled in the reeds of a pond and not as open and obvious. The second picture demands center stage with its brilliance and the third represents the range in color of the displays. Enjoy!

My work certainly can’t compete with his, but for my art prints, please visit my main gallery: TheWallGallery  (In respect of copyright,  none of the Chihuly pictures I have taken are on my website as it puts them in a “commercial” use. This blog is using them for sharing purposes and getting the word out)

“The Garden Waterfall” The Art Print of the Week

“The Garden Waterfall” The Art print of the week is from my Gardens Gallery. A recent addition to the collection, the setting is in Issaquah, Washington. This landscaped garden created an entrance to a hillside neighborhood. I used a watercolor technique to soften the look creating a warmer feel to the picture. Enjoy!
