Sharing “Who Are You” from The Picture of Faith

I wanted to share a post that moved me even knowing the circumstances behind it. The post is from the blog called “The Picture of Faith” and the blogger I am proud to say is one of my daughters. This particular post speaks a truth in faith not only for this particular situation, but for many others.

Who Are You

You move through each day on auto pilot, because you feel the world and those around you need you to. You’re putting in the time and effort to get through that day, but really what did you do? What did you accomplish? You’re trapped in this vicious cycle of your typical day to day things, but really are you living? You begin questioning what are you doing, who are you, what is your purpose?

So many of us have these feelings but…(view original post here)

Tis The Season -2021

The beginning of December is typically when our Camellia tree and bushes start their winter bloom here in Los Angeles. It also marks the beginning of the Christmas season, so I thought it appropriate to share three camellia captures with words for the holiday season!!

Peace and Joy – Pink And White Camellia Bloom
Love – Camellia Soft Pink Bloom
Faith – Red Camellia Bloom

Life’s Path

I’ve attached three art prints I created using a watercolor technique of hiking trails. The first one was created in 2011 and I just refreshed it as I created the other two this past week.

I love the peace and serenity of hiking specifically in the Pacific Northwest. The dense forest and pine trees create a sense of being one with nature. Because the forest is so dense, I don’t venture off the path as I know in these woods, we are not alone and crossing paths with a bear or whatever doesn’t appeal to me.

Life is a Journey

On each of these prints, I did an overlay using a thought of mine as it relates to each of our journeys through life. We are each on our own path so to speak and it is our choice as to whether or not we stay on that path or choose to venture off knowingly or unknowingly.

Life’s Journey Down A Path Chosen For Us

I liken it to being a parent and trying to keep your kids on a path as we raise them. At some point their free will may take them off the chosen path, but we are always there to guide them back if they seek it. As each of us travels our own individual paths, He is always there to guide us back when we venture off the chosen path.

The Light Of Life

Lighthouses are a great symbol of guidance to safety. I’ve attached two art prints I have created of lighthouses using entirely different approaches. On both, I added the same verse which I thought fit perfectly with a lighthouse. The verse refers to the “Light of Life”, which I think of as Love, Hope, Peace and Joy. We all seek that and find comfort in these feelings. With the Christmas Season upon us, especially this year, we definitely could use as much Love as we can muster for each other and the Hope that we will conquer this pandemic sooner rather than later. Peace and Joy we all seek in our everyday lives on a daily basis. All of this is within our ability as individuals and is one of the few things we can actually control on a daily basis.

This first print, I created the lighthouse in a very abstract matter.

Light Of The World

The second print, I created using ink drawing to outline the lighthouse structure and then filled in the color with a watercolor/airbrush technique.

Whoever Follows Me

May your holiday season be filled with Love, Hope, Peace and Joy!

Happy New Year 2020

I look forward to the start of a new decade and go into the New Year with Faith. We start a new decade and I have to say, I can’t believe it was actually 20 years ago we celebrated the start of a new century.

I try and look at the positive in everything and find that it actually isn’t as hard as one might think. It starts within each and everyone of us to focus on the positive. Life does through us curve balls, that’s the nature of our existence, but through those curve balls if we stay positive, we grow through our faith. Wishing you and yours a very Happy New Year!!! Here’s to a great 2020!!

Thanksgiving 2019 – Thankfulness

As the United States celebrates Thanksgiving next Thursday, I take the time to reflect with  gratitude on my heart for all the blessings I have in my life.

Pacific Ocean Sunset – Three Versions of Same Capture

The attached capture of a Pacific Ocean sunset is from Carlsbad, California. The coastal location of this capture was just a few miles west of where we lived for 24 years raising our family. It’s located in north San Diego County. Having been gone from area since 2013, my wife and I spent a week on the coast last October and this was one of the sunsets we were treated with.

I wanted to share the process I go through when one of my photographs or art prints inspires me to add an inspirational thought.

The first capture is the original one which shows the relationship between the coastal bluff and the sunset.

As I thought about using this as a basis for a print with an inspirational thought, I cropped the original shot eliminating the coastal bluff with the exception of the top of plant on that bluff. My next step was working with the message I had chosen, playing with putting it on the photograph using various fonts and font sizes. Upon finalizing (this process sounds simple, but trust me….I tend to turn it into a lengthy process trying a variety of fonts and sizes) this aspect, I then play with positioning. Positioning is another process of centering, not centering…splitting the verbiage up or keep it in one line, etc.

I chose these two sentiments simply because these are the two thoughts that came to mind when I was looking at this capture.

Stop and Take a Pause on Your Journey

Day in and day out each of us have so many things going on albeit it physically or mentally. It is usually what needs to get done or what do I need to accomplish today. It can be your mind racing about current issues in your life or stressing about the future….it’s a multitude of ongoing things. When I feel myself getting a bit overwhelmed, I remind myself to pause, take a deep breath and quiet my mind. I like to picture myself hiking one of my favorite trails in the mountains of the Pacific Northwest….the peace and quiet of the forest takes over…….

We Walk – Featured Art Print

I wanted to feature this print for a couple of reasons…the first is that winter definitely has a grip on large portions of the US and Canada as we head into the last week of January and the second is the verse itself.

I like this verse as it reminds me in layman’s terms to follow my gut….listen to that voice within to guide you. I can reflect back over my life and so many times I have followed that inner voice when I have needed guidance facing major choices, even when that voice was directing me to something that didn’t make sense or wasn’t the logical choice. I found that things opened up as situations I knew nothing of led to doors opening I never knew existed and if I had gone the other way (logical in my opinion), events changed to where that direction would have been a dead-end. Even when personal tragedies occurred throughout my life, that inner voice would get me to just put one foot in front of the other and keep going. We all face these issues and obstacles as we journey forward on this walk called life.

I like this reminder of faith, faith in purpose and faith in the direction that has been given to me. None of us really know what is right around the bend and we spend way too much time and energy worrying about it. The faith part keeps you focused on the present and gives you reassurance you are being kept on the right path.
