Inspirational Thoughts for the Week – Featured Art Printss

Today, I wanted to share a few thoughts with you. Each of us has a story…our successes, loves and struggles. We all know someone at any given time who is struggling and suffering (many times that person is ourself). Sometimes the struggle is self inflicted, sometimes it’s just circumstances. We all encounter challenges as we walk this journey called life. Some challenges are but bumps in the road while others are almost insurmountable mountains. It’s how we handle ourselves as we encounter these struggles that grow us and shape us. The beauty of being a blogger is that you get to touch a number of lives and share in others joys and struggles. There is a camaraderie that is formed and even though you haven’t met each other in person, you take on an ownership and you care about their lives and their journey. With some of the struggles a number of you have shared this last week, I wanted to give back some inspirational reminders that I have created and to be honest the creation has been more for myself than anyone else…

Perseverance….

The journey requires “perseverance” to get from point A to point B. What could possibly tell the visual story more than a rock climber who is a small red dot on a very large piece of rock slowly making his way up against great odds. He will succeed even when it looks impossible, because of his perseverance.

Faith…

Faith is at the center of all that I am and without it, I am nothing. Life grows and flourishes around that central aspect. Love, family, laughter and living all revolve around this central theme. Each aspect is but an extension of it. Love…put others first because of your love for them. Laughter…don’t take yourself too seriously, enjoy the moment. Live…live life to the fullest as our time here is limited. Family…our core support group. Take care of each other.

Thankfulness…

Greeting each day with a sense of thanksgiving. We are all blessed in many different ways. Do we take the time to realize it and give thanks for it on a daily basis? The blessings we receive come in many different forms and are often very subtle, yet incredibly powerful.

Just trying to focus on some positive elements and to thank you for all of your support. Have a great rest of the week!! Thoughts?

Do Not Fear – Featured Art Print

This week, I wanted to feature another new print in my Inspiration Gallery titled: Do Not Fear. This art print is from my Abstract Watercolor Gallery with an overlay of a quote from Isaiah 41:10 which reads: “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

This verse was written for the struggles the Israelites were going through as described in the Old Testament, but just as pertinent today as we each face some type of struggle or issue.

I came across this bible verse as a reference in something I was reading and I liked it as a reminder that we are not alone on our life journey. My attempt is to create visual reminders that make us stop and pause to reflect as we get ourselves too stressed or worried about situations in our life.

Again, as I mentioned last week, the process for these inspiration art prints happens in various ways. With  this particular print, the verse was stuck in my head and I was searching for the right piece of art to put it on. Without coming across it, this art print popped into my head and I remember thinking; “An abstract print?’ Hmm…not sure.” But, not one to ignore that little voice in my head, I pulled it up and knew it was right. It may not be obvious and this may sound like a justification for that little voice, but whatever….here goes: The print has an edgy look and feel to it because of the abstract shapes of the barren tree branches. A little chaotic and harsh, yet the purple pulls it together and softens it up. The exact situation we find ourselves in as we seek peace from the struggles of our daily lives. Thoughts?

I Will Give You Rest – Featured Art Print

This week, I wanted to feature a new print in my Inspiration Gallery titled: I Will Give You Rest. This art print is a color photograph of a yellow rose blossom I took last fall from my daughter’s garden in Los Angeles. Timing is everything. It was the last full bloom of roses for the season and I happened to be there at the right time. As an overlay onto the color photograph, I placed a quote from Matthew 11:28 which reads: “Come to me, all of you who are tired and have heavy loads, and I will give you rest.”

What a great reminder of the peace that is available to us through faith. I don’t know about you, but I find myself getting stressed and overloaded with all of the things we encounter in our everyday lives. We all have something…whether it be a health issue with yourself or a loved one…problems at work or with a marriage or just everyday living and trying to make ends meet. The world is broken and filled with problems, but we have refuge and whenever you feel the need to rest, remember this quote from the bible.

I also wanted to share the process I go through when I create a new art print for my Inspiration Gallery. No two prints ever get created in quite the same manner and here’s what I mean. Often I will come across a bible verse or a personal prayer of mine that I think would make a great inspirational quote and then I search through my collection for the appropriate print. Somehow, when I find the correct match, I just know it. I also do it in the reverse way as I did with this print. I go through my collection looking for something that speaks to me as a potential and keep that in mind. In this case, I was going through some of my color photographic prints and stopped at this one. What hit me was the way I cropped the original picture with the space at the top and I remember thinking…”That is a perfect space for a quote in my Inspiration Gallery”. Shortly thereafter, I came across this verse and knew I had a match. What could be more symbolic of rest than relaxing in a rose garden? The other methodology I use may sound a little strange, but sometimes both verse and art print pop into my head simultaneously and I know I have to go with it. Ultimately, what I am trying to create, is an artistic reminder for those times (all too often, unfortunately) when we are overwhelmed and need that quick visual that we aren’t alone on this journey. Thoughts?

I invite you to visit my Inspiration Gallery to enjoy this print and many more.

Guide Me Back – A Featured Art Print

I want to feature an art print that was born as a result of my blog a couple of weeks ago. The art print is titled ” Guide Me Back” from my Inspiration Gallery. You might recognize it as “A Path In The Forest” from my Landscape Oil Gallery.

Guide Me Back

Wall Art Print: Guide Me Back

Let me back up for a minute….one of my more popular Inspiration Gallery prints is titled “Life is a Journey”.

Wall Art Print: Life is a Journey

Wall Art Print: Life is a Journey

It depicts a green forest and hiking trail with a personal thought and prayer of mine. A client who has that print and uses it as a daily reminder also reads my blog. They saw “A Path In The Forest” and contacted me asking if I would put my “Life is a Journey” verbiage on that print for them. I do a lot of custom work with that particular gallery (usually different bible versions of verses I have on my art prints) and said, “No problem”. I really liked the way it turned out and decided to add it to the gallery. Thoughts?

I invite you to visit my Inspiration Gallery to enjoy this print and many more.

Comfort – Featured Art Print

“Comfort” is an art print I am featuring from my Inspiration Gallery. The art print is done with a quote from 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 as an overlay on a photograph I have done using a sepia tone of a rural farm nestled in the backcountry of Oregon.

Comfort

Comfort

The creation of this inspirational print was a request by a client. They have purchased a few of my inspirational prints and recently contacted me with a desire for a print that would inspire them and be a daily reminder concerning a situation in their family. She was looking for a biblical quote that supported the concept of being there for a hurting family member, to help lift them up and at the same time support their own personal grief. The other part of the request was a farm related photograph.

Not one to back from a challenge, I started racking my brains and researching key words in a bible reference section. I know a lot of people can quote verses like they are always on the tip of their tongue…well, not this guy…I can barely quote what I had for dinner the night before. I remember concept and can tell you philosophically what is what, but to be able to say “Yes, that would be in the book of…chapter…verse…” not from me in this lifetime. My brain just isn’t wired that way. So the search was on.

I found a verse that fit the bill. So the next step was the print. I seek to make sure that the biblical quote I am using is a good marriage with the art print I put it on. In this particular case, when I settled on the verse I wanted to share, I went searching for the correct print. This particular print stood out in my head as I had just worked with it recently. The next step was the font style and placement. That always requires a lot of trial and error and ultimately what I think looks like the best fit. I am pleased with the way this print came together.

The setting for this particular art print is a farm in the backcountry of Oregon. I came across it when my wife and I were doing a photo shoot of covered bridges in Oregon. The farm was nestled in a field surround by a forest. It was early morning with light rain on and off. The scene was very peaceful with a wisp of low clouds or fog drifting down the hill. I liked the sepia finish to the scene as it gives it a time tested look and for this print doesn’t distract from the bible verse, but allows it to take center stage. Thoughts?

I have my inspiration prints in two locations. I opened an Etsy shop to utilize a feature they have that I wanted to test before adding it onto my website and that is the ability to download a print, keep it in electronic form for background on computers as an example or print at your own convenience. For smaller prints I thought it was a great idea for international sales as there aren’t any postage costs. Also on Etsy, I am offering these prints in an 8X10 size pre-matted with white matting and backer board ready for an 11X14 frame.

On my main gallery website, I offer the same prints in four different sizes all giclee prints on professional grade gloss photo paper.

Etsy: 8X10 downloadable version of this print.

Etsy: 8X10 pre-matted and mounted for 11X14 frame.

My web site: four sizes to choose from.

Tree Lights in the Clearing – Featured Art Print

Just so everyone is clear, I hesitate to bring up Christmas at this point in time, but we are headed into November and the holidays will be here before we know it. So, in a continuation with the line of Christmas Cards I added to my Note Card Gallery, I wanted to feature another art print that I used for one of the cards. This art print is titled: “Tree Lights in the Clearing”.

This particular print is not in any of my galleries as it is brand new. I had just created it for my Landscape Oil Gallery and something about it spoke to me for a possible art print on one of my cards. I liked the clearing of barren trees in the middle of a thick pine forest. In creating the print, I highlighted the barren trees and made them the focal point. I used a look of brighter light on those trees, making it appear that the trees were lit up…almost magically in the forest. For the card, I then took it one step further and created white lights on the trees creating a festive winter scene.

My goal in the line of cards was to create winter scenes of nature that had a slightly nostalgic look and feel to them. Natural winter scenes depicting a simpler slower paced life. During the Holiday Season, we frantically prepare for it, but when Christmas and New Years arrive, we try to slow down to enjoy family and friends. It’s a time of love and community, a time of year to stop and reflect on where we are and what we want for the coming year. Thoughts?

I invite you to come into the gallery to view the addition of Christmas Cards to the collection in the Note Card Gallery.
