Father And Son Walk The Beach

In keeping with the theme over the last few weeks from my posts (peace and tranquility), I’ve added an additional element this week…human interaction. This type of human interaction is rooted in love and trust. The art print depicts a father and son walking on an otherwise empty beach with the beauty of the ocean in front of them. What I see is a bonding moment between a parent and their child. The conversation can be intimate and personal as they share the beach with no one else.

In creating this scene, the focal point is the two people in the lower bottom right. Typically your focal point is more centered, but I wanted the the ocean and beach to set a mood or tone for the overall look. To create the focal point I used black as a stark contrast to the rest of the scene. In the foreground as a row of black pulling the eye down. I envisioned this as the top of bluff overlooking the setting. Pulling your eye down you can’t help but go over to the right and see what I am calling the father and son.

Since this is an abstract work, to heighten the awareness of the ocean, I added sailboats in a slightly darker shade of blue so as not to become the focal point, but to solidify the setting. I envisioned a walk on the beach just after sundown, with light coming from a break in the approaching clouds (potentially fog or a marine layer rolling ashore).

The Inspirational Flamingo Family

This week I’m featuring a series of art prints I created that were inspired by a project I took on for a kids room. The series is five prints of flamingos done in an abstract style. On each of the prints I added a word of inspiration. The series has a whimsical look to brighten the day and words of inspiration to guide our way.

I’m starting with “Family”. Family represents many things to each of us. It could mean your immediate biological family or an extended family or a work family or even the family of man. We are in this together as family from our individual households to the planet as a whole.

The next one is “Faith”. We have faith that we will get through this together as family.

Next is “Hope” which springs from faith. We have hope in the best outcome or hope in a better future than the present situation.

Next in line is “Peace”. Our faith and hope lead us to a feeling of peace. Live each moment “in the moment”. There is nothing but the current moment in our lives. The past is just that and the future has not happened.

Stay focused on the present moment and enjoy our next message “Love”. Love springs eternal and connects us to each other. Love celebrates the present moment and enriches our lives. Love for ourselves and love for each other.

As the “family of man” on this planet we call earth, we have faith, hope, peace and love. May we be well and take care of each other.

I Quiet My Mind – Featured Art Print

I’m featuring this art print this week for a couple of reasons. First and foremost is the prayer on this print and secondly the print was created from one of my many hikes in the Pacific Northwest.

My wife and I have been blessed with three wonderful daughters and have spent the past weekend in the Seattle area participating in the wedding of our youngest and the last of the three to get married. The ceremony was incredible and my third walk down the aisle with one of my girls. The time we spent with family on both sides is priceless and I am so grateful for my siblings and their children flying in for this celebration. It was an incredible weekend and gives me pause to reflect on how blessed we are.

Mrs. T and I got married in college, waited until our late 20’s to start a family and had the joy of raising three girls (I had to readjust my communication style as I grew up with two brothers and one sister…my poor sister). The time goes by so quickly and has made us very thankful for our family and friends who have blessed our lives. I continue to give thanks for the blessings of life.

May this find you and yours well, happy and blessed…even when the road of life gives you twists and turns.  Kirt

The Family Unit in Gold – Featured Art Print

I have been adding some new art prints to my Abstract Oil Gallery, so I wanted to feature one of the new additions to the collection: The Family Unit in Gold. As with any abstract print, the shapes are either suggestive of a specific form or they are just shapes. This print is suggestive of the shapes and what you see is an abstract version of a mother holding a  child in the foreground and a father with a child on his shoulders in the background.

Having been married for over 40 years and raising three incredible daughters, my wife and I celebrate family.  This particular piece (and others in a series around family units in the gallery) are my expression of the team effort it takes in raising children.

Being a fan of abstract work, but being married to someone who does not, I realize that this style of art don’t appeal to everyone. From my perspective, I look for art prints that evoke an emotional response from either the shapes or colors. Whether it is a piece of just shapes and colors that please the eye or something that distorts a subject that is still recognizable; if the color contrasts and or shapes appeal to you, then it works. To me it’s simple without getting too deep in a meaning. All of that said, I thought it would be fun to show where the inspiration for this piece came from.

We have two small statuettes that we have on our entry table that we picked up years ago that we both liked. About a month ago, they caught my attention and I began to think about doing some abstract art prints around them. The next day found me positioning these two statuettes in a light box multiple ways. About thirty shots later, I narrowed the pictures down to a few different poses and started creating the resulting prints using a variety of oil techniques and color hues. I have attached the photograph that this particle piece is based on.

I was only using the photograph as a basis, so wasn’t concerned whether the shot was in perfect focus or not (which it isn’t). To complete this print, I used a fauvist style oil painting technique which creates strong, yet simple brush strokes in bold colors. I chose an intense purple for background with the family done in a brighter gold. I also liked the positioning of this shot with the mom in the foreground and the dad appearing to follow as if on a journey (metaphorically speaking they are), but now I’m getting too deep. 🙂

Whether you are an abstract art fan or not, do the colors and or shapes create a visual response for you?

I invite you to come into the gallery to view the new additions to the collection in the Abstract Oil Gallery.
