The Fog And The Island – Featured Art Print

The Fog and The Island

I created The Fog And The Island using a traditional watercolor technique. This technique focuses on subtle colors and shading.

The setting is a New England harbor that has an island at the entrance. The harbor itself is lined by a New England fishing village. The harbor is a busy port for fisherman and other boaters. All around the harbor are docks and moors for the many boats that call the harbor home. New England is infamous for its fishing industry and the towns that support it. The natural setting of harbor, island, ocean and coastline creates an ideal situation for artists. Thoughts?

Pondering The Surf – Featured Art Print

This particular art print is something a little different from my usual norm. I typically don’t focus in on people, but in this case there was a mood element that caught my eye. The look of solitude and intense thought is what drew me to this scene of a man just standing and “pondering” the surf. To create the mood I was perceiving, I used the same technique I had used on the New Orleans series I featured last week. With that series, it complimented the old world look… in this case it helped create a subtle mood to highlight the sense of what I saw in this scene.  Because of that element, I have also used this print twice in my Inspiration Gallery with a prayer overlay on one and the Lord’s Prayer as on overlay on the other.

Whether it’s a black and white or color photograph or one of my digitally painted art prints, my attempt is to capture a moment or a scene that invokes some type of an emotional or visual response. Thoughts? (side note: the setting for this print is a seclude beach on Kauai in the Hawaiian Islands. The beach is accessed by hiking a trail that takes you up and along the cliffs of the Na Pali coastline and then down onto this beach)

Oregon Lighthouses – Featured Art Prints

On one of our many trips up to Seattle to see our youngest daughter, my wife and I decided to do a road trip winding our way up the Oregon Coastline. Our goal was to visit the string of Oregon Lighthouses that dot the rugged coastline. I have attached five art prints from my Lighthouse/Nautical Gallery that I created as a result. With these particular prints, I used a gothic oil technique to create an old world look and feel to the subject matter. This technique uses bold brush strokes and warm earth tone colors.

The first print is of the Heceda Head Complex. The road winds along the rugged bluffs to a parking area by the caretaker’s house in the right portion of the picture. From the house, you hike a path hugging the bluff to the lighthouse itself, a path the lighthouse caretaker had to take daily to get out to the point.

The second print is of the Cape Blanco Lighthouse, sitting high above the pounding surf of the Pacific Ocean.

With the third print, I wanted to focus just on the light portion of the Umpqua Lighthouse. I like the intricate architecture, especially against a deep blue sky.

The fourth art print is your view of the Cape Meares Lighthouse as you walk a descending path to the facility itself. As you are coming down the hill, you are suddenly at eye level with the light and then you continue down to a switchback…..

where you come face to face with the short, but beautiful Cape Meares Lighthouse.

Thoughts?

I invite you to visit my Lighthouse/Nautical Gallery to enjoy these prints and many more.
