The Masts Have It – Featured Art Prints

Here in the United States, we celebrate Memorial Day the last weekend in May. It is a national holiday to honor our fallen soldiers. Since it is a three-day weekend, it also has become the unofficial beginning of summer and summer activities. As we honor our fallen, we also celebrate life with family and friends and for many parts of the country it is a time to finally get out and celebrate sunshine and outdoor activities. I was fortunate enough to be in New England a few years back at this time of the year.  I can’t help but think of the scene I have featured here when I think of this three-day weekend. Boating, fishing and enjoying the great outdoors.

I created these two prints using an abstract watercolor technique. This particular technique creates sharp lines and shapes. With the detail of the masts, I wanted to keep them and the harbor as the focal point. What you are seeing is two, two mast boats side by side in both prints.

Majestic Boat

I love the majesty of these boats and can only image the splendor with their sails unfurled.

I Trust You – Featured Art Print

I Trust You is a wall art print I created using a biblical quote from Psalm 143:8 as an overlay on an art print of mine where I used a subtle watercolor technique of boats in Victoria Harbor.

End Of Day At The Dock – Featured Art Print

“End of Day at The Dock” is an art print I created using a traditional watercolor technique. This technique focuses on traditional colors and shading to create a soft warm print.

The setting is Victoria Harbour, British Columbia. The harbour is used as a seaport for aviation as well as for boats including ferry service, fishing and sail boating. This particular scene is directly in front of the Fairmont Empress Hotel, famous for it’s afternoon tea and Victorian ambiance.

What I like about this print is three-fold. I love the overall softness of colors, they create a warm comforting visual experience. The other aspect I like is the subject matter. There is something visually appealing about boats docked in a harbor (or harbour in this case) right after sunset when dusk settles in. The third aspect is the two visual focal points created by the lights on the dock by the boats. These focal points pull your eye in to see more detail.  Thoughts?

The Fog And The Island – Featured Art Print

The Fog and The Island

I created The Fog And The Island using a traditional watercolor technique. This technique focuses on subtle colors and shading.

The setting is a New England harbor that has an island at the entrance. The harbor itself is lined by a New England fishing village. The harbor is a busy port for fisherman and other boaters. All around the harbor are docks and moors for the many boats that call the harbor home. New England is infamous for its fishing industry and the towns that support it. The natural setting of harbor, island, ocean and coastline creates an ideal situation for artists. Thoughts?

The Harbor – Featured Art Print

This art print was created using a fauvism (Fauvism: a style of painting with vivid expressionistic and non-naturalistic use of color that flourished in Paris from 1905) technique of a harbor at dusk. This technique uses abstract shapes and variations of colors to create a unique look.
The setting is Victoria Harbour in British Columbia. The fishing boats are docked for the night, just as dusk settles in. Thoughts?

Victoria Harbour – Excerpts from a Photo Shoot

I have attached three shots I took on a trip we made to Victoria, Canada. We were staying at the Fairmont Empress Hotel right on the harbor. Right in front of the hotel, we were strolling along the water taking the sights in, when I took theses shots. The first two were as the sun went down and the third one was taken at dusk. I love the colors, the boats and the water.
