Take a Deep Breath and Focus on What is Truly Important

This simple message has been true throughout human history. It seems so relevant today with all of the negativity and anger we are exposed to daily, but the reality is….that environment has been with mankind always. None of us are perfect and we all have our agendas, but that doesn’t mean we can’t take a step back and hear a message we were given long ago.

Love is very powerful, even amongst the chaos of negativity. I chose these two pictures to use with an overlay of this message as a perfect fit. I took both shots as summer afternoon monsoon thunderstorms were dying down here in the Arizona desert and the sun was setting. Both shots depict a small clearing in the sky with brilliant color reflecting off of the powerful and chaotic thunderstorms. Simple, yet powerful message amidst the chaos…..

I Trust You – Featured Art Print

I Trust You is a wall art print I created using a biblical quote from Psalm 143:8 as an overlay on an art print of mine where I used a subtle watercolor technique of boats in Victoria Harbor.

Inspirational Quotes Day Two – Quote Challenge

Last week, I was challenged to a “quotes quota” by my friend Melinda with purpleslobinrecovery. I love her willingness to share her life and her openness with all of her struggles. If you are not familiar with her blog, I strongly encourage dropping by!! Thank you Melinda for the nomination!!

The rules of the challenge are as follows:

  • Thank the blogger, who nominated you.
  • Publish 3 quotes on 3 consecutive days in your blog. It can be your own, or from a book, movie or from anyone who inspires you.
  • Nominate 3 more bloggers to carry on this endeavor.

What rule doesn’t need tweaked occasionally, so as not to put anyone on the spot, I will adhere to #1 & #2 and for #3, I will list three blogs each day that I find “Inspirational” to go with the theme of my three day quote challenge. ( I find so many of the blogs I follow fit in that category, that I am literally pulling three names from a hat…ok plastic bowl actually…at random to recognize each day. )

Day Two: Quotes from the New Testament:

Matthew 11:28 (NCV)

Whenever I am exhausted (and I don’t mean physically), this verse gives me pause to stop and lean on Him.

1 Corinthians 13: 4-8 (NCV)

Such a great reminder of what love truly is and isn’t.

Matthew 17: 20 (NIV)

Such an encouraging passage to remind us that anything is possible if we have faith.

Day One: Quotes from the Old Testament:

Proverbs 3: 5-7 (NCV)

This one rings home with me….we think we know it all, but we don’t. How many times has something come into your life you never imaged and it completes a dream or a need?

Psalm 118:24 (NKJV)

Each day is a new wonder and every time the sun comes up, a new opportunity is given to each of us.

Psalm 23:1-6 (NKJ)

Bottom line, He is always with us to comfort and guide us no matter what the circumstances are.

I Will Give You Rest – Featured Art Print

This week, I wanted to feature a new print in my Inspiration Gallery titled: I Will Give You Rest. This art print is a color photograph of a yellow rose blossom I took last fall from my daughter’s garden in Los Angeles. Timing is everything. It was the last full bloom of roses for the season and I happened to be there at the right time. As an overlay onto the color photograph, I placed a quote from Matthew 11:28 which reads: “Come to me, all of you who are tired and have heavy loads, and I will give you rest.”

What a great reminder of the peace that is available to us through faith. I don’t know about you, but I find myself getting stressed and overloaded with all of the things we encounter in our everyday lives. We all have something…whether it be a health issue with yourself or a loved one…problems at work or with a marriage or just everyday living and trying to make ends meet. The world is broken and filled with problems, but we have refuge and whenever you feel the need to rest, remember this quote from the bible.

I also wanted to share the process I go through when I create a new art print for my Inspiration Gallery. No two prints ever get created in quite the same manner and here’s what I mean. Often I will come across a bible verse or a personal prayer of mine that I think would make a great inspirational quote and then I search through my collection for the appropriate print. Somehow, when I find the correct match, I just know it. I also do it in the reverse way as I did with this print. I go through my collection looking for something that speaks to me as a potential and keep that in mind. In this case, I was going through some of my color photographic prints and stopped at this one. What hit me was the way I cropped the original picture with the space at the top and I remember thinking…”That is a perfect space for a quote in my Inspiration Gallery”. Shortly thereafter, I came across this verse and knew I had a match. What could be more symbolic of rest than relaxing in a rose garden? The other methodology I use may sound a little strange, but sometimes both verse and art print pop into my head simultaneously and I know I have to go with it. Ultimately, what I am trying to create, is an artistic reminder for those times (all too often, unfortunately) when we are overwhelmed and need that quick visual that we aren’t alone on this journey. Inspiration

I just opened a new gallery on my web site called Inspiration.  I have been creating a few of my art prints with some of my prayers and biblical quotes. I then felt moved to actually do a gallery with inspirational quotes using my art as a back drop. I am a man of faith and am very spiritual and philosophical…that said, I use the Bible as my reference point. I like to look at different versions of the bible to get one that talks to me in as plain of english as possible. If a quote comes to mind, I start thinking of which picture that works with. Sometimes it works in reverse….I think of a picture and try to figure out what type of quote goes with it. This first picture was the watercolor inspiring me and looking for a matching quote. In this watercolor I see a very quiet relaxing inspirational space. A very “zen” space which is often sought out for refuge from the daily grind. That train of thought led me to Psalm 62:8.

A very peaceful and serene scene!

The next step is to place the quote on the picture and pick the font. Sounds easy enough, but I need to make sure to keep the balance in the picture and that the quote doesn’t get lost and is easy to read. Again, sounds simple enough, but in a few of the oil paintings I had to “doctor” the area of the quote so the type wasn’t lost in the busyness of the background.

Next is one of my favorites. I love the picture…it’s of the mountains around North Bend, Washington. This picture definitely drove the quote. I keep reminding myself on a daily basis the power of faith and this quote comes to mind all the time! As I was painting this particular picture, all I could think of was the “faith” quote. To me it was the perfect fit.

The quote from Matthew is a very powerful statement. Again, from my perspective this watercolor and the quote are a perfect match.

The next one was a prayer of mine seeking a picture. I feel really strongly about quieting the mind so we may hear the voice of the Lord. It’s a real challenge for me frankly, because the moment I stop to quiet myself….my mind goes into overdrive. I was going through my portfolio looking for a print that speaks “quiet” to me. When I came across this scene, I was struck with the complete stillness of an early morning fog.

The next example was prayer inspired. I accept the many blessings we are given and am constantly in awe of the timing of events.  I am truly a blessed man. In one of my philosophical moments with myself, I was having this mental debate about blessings past and future….totally missing the main point…the blessings of the moment…being in the moment and appreciating what you have at this point in time. I remembered this sunset watercolor and found a fit.

The last example was a picture looking for a quote. I love this watercolor. The lighting on the docks by each boat always draws my eye in to see if anyone is coming or going. I found what I was looking for in Psalm 143:8.

Thanks for letting me share as I open a new gallery. I invite you to check out the rest of the art prints in my Inspiration Gallery and as always invite you to explore my main web gallery: The Wall Gallery.
