Lavender Field

This past week my wife and I went to a Lavender field on Camano Island which is on the Puget Sound north of the Seattle area here in the Pacific Northwest. This time of year there are a lot of Lavender fields in full bloom and many farms invite you to come and pick bouquets (I use that term loosely as you actually cut them with a sharp blade) for a price. Each plant has numerous blooms rising from them and on this particular farm you are encouraged to cut the blooms of an entire plant which equates to numerous bouquets.

Camano Island is a very heavily forested island without a lot of open fields. There are farms on the island, but it is mostly dense forest. Having said that, the setting was beautiful and the “Lavender Farm” was owned and operated by a very nice young family. Their children helped those of us that came to cut by giving us the tools we would need and barrels to put our “pickings” in while we were in the field.

I asked permission to take pictures of the field and was promptly asked by their children to take a picture of them (which I did and have since sent it to them). I’ve attached six captures from the shoot for this weeks blog. Enjoy:

Lavender 1
Lavender 2
Lavender 3
Lavender 4
Lavender 5
Lavender 6

Our girls and some friends will be the lucky recipients of very fragrant bouguets!!

My wife found out about it and thought it would cool similar to our experience with the tulip fields we visited in the early spring here. It was a great experience and the family that owns it was great!! Thanks for stopping by!! Have a great weekend!!

I have seen the lavender fields in France and loved them. How wonderful to find some in the Pacific Northwest. The pictures are fabulous. The recipients will be delighted with their lavender bouquets.

Neither had we before. It truly is stunning and we had a great time with the family that owns the fields. We picked enough to pass nice bouquets onto our daughters for their homes. Thanks for stopping by!! Have a great weekend!

It was a really fun day trip and we had originally go over to the island to pottery as there are a lot of artists that live there. By chance, my wife came across a post by the owner of this field soliciting folks to schedule appointments to come a pick bouquets. So she picked a time for us and the rest is history!! We came home with some really beautiful bouquets for our daughters and some friends!! Thanks for stopping by!! Have a great week!!

Beautiful pictures! Also what an amazing experience you had! It’s one thing to buy these plants at the store and enjoy their beauty and aroma in your home, but to actually go out and cut them yourself from a farm, makes them all that more special and beautiful! Jared and I are enjoying their beauty and aroma in our home, thank you!

There are lavender fields here in the UK too, it’s a lovely sight to see a field full of purple (and white). I am desparately waiting for my lavender plant to flower again! I can almost smell the fragrance. I have been to a lender farm in that area too. There are some here, near where they grow peaches, closer to Gran Junction but I have never visited. Nice shots!
