Carlsbad, California – Coastal Sunset

Carlsbad, California is located in North San Diego County – north of the city of San Diego proper.  It sits along the coastline and the village center is just blocks from the beach. This particular setting is just south of the village center where there is a walkway along the coast just above the beach (notice the fence as it lines the walkway above the beach). To get down to the beach there are long stairs scattered periodically for access. I have a number of art prints done in various styles from this setting. What I wanted to feature today was this particular print I did using more subtle earth tones instead of bright vibrant colors. It creates a different visual experience and supports a more relaxed mood with the setting sun. I used the same technique I talked about last week (impasto) to create the thick bold brush strokes.

Wonderful print, Kirt, and I like the color choices and thick brush strokes. So relaxing to be by the Carlsbad beach watching the sun go down. I especially like the radiating sun.

OK…small world Brad. We lived in Vista for over 20 years and that’s where we raised our family. We lived in the Shadowridge area and our property butted up to the city limits of Carlsbad. That’s where we moved from when we built over here in Arizona almost 5 years ago. Couldn’t get enough of the ocean sunsets. Have a great weekend and thanks for stopping by. (where in Vista did your grandfather live?)

Instantly relaxed was the feeling I had looking at this Kirt. The thick brush strokes create a warm image where I can imagine soaking in the final rays of the day. Lovely.

Thank you very much Sue….I created this one while I was doing the other bright colored ones….this kind of became the quiet cousin if you will….I was going through my sunset prints a couple of weeks ago and that’s when this one popped out at me for the reasons I stated. I appreciate you stopping by! Hope all is well with you and your family!!

Oooh, love it! That warm gold is so relaxing and welcoming! I didn’t realize there was a Carlsbad, California – the only one I knew about was Carlsbad, New Mexico. I’m still hoping to get back to see the Carlsbad Caverns again someday…

I felt like the color tones gave it a relaxing, warm touch. Thanks for the feedback. Carlsbad Ca is a beautiful community and in the 20+ years we lived in the area it grew tremendously but still retained its charm! I’m with you on the Carlsbad Caverns….have only been there once and that was many years ago….thanks for stopping by Diane!!

Beautiful painting! The thick brush strokes and the warmth that radiates from the painting sets me back to Carlsbad when I was there!
