Desert Botanical Garden At Night – Phoenix

A couple of weekends ago, we had an opportunity to visit the Phoenix Desert Botanical Garden at night. There was an art exhibit my wife wanted to see. I didn’t go with the intent of photography, but I always have my camera. Had I thought about it ahead of time, I probably would have come more prepared. That said, I have attached four shots from that night. Having never visited the garden at night, I didn’t realize just how beautiful it was with the night lighting. Had I intended to do night shooting, I would have brought my tripod and spent time adjusting the aperture and speed to get the type of shot I wanted. It was very crowded with people that evening and when I realized I wanted to take some shots, I grabbed a few on the run if you will…

Why? I like night photos with almost random elements lit up. I have one that I took shining a tactical flashlight up into an bare Oak tree in January that I really like. There’s something unexpected about those photos.

I love night shots and like the overall look of these, but I know enough to know I could have gotten better shots technically if I had my tripod, etc..just me being me!! Thanks again!!

They really are lovely shots, Kirt. I especially like the third one — interesting to see the light focusing upward on the trees, rather than shining down on them. 😀 Hugs.

Night photography is something I am trying to learn more about Kirt. Our fairy penguin photos were not as great as I hoped but I guess it’s all a learning experience. Looks like you got some great shots for not being ‘prepared’. 🙂

I have not been to the Desert Botanical since last spring! I went with a blogging friend. Then the year before that sweet, sweet man and I went to see Chihuly.
Even though you did not intend to take photos… these came out quite nicely!

The shots you’ve shared here Kirt are indeed precious. True for where I live also, Northern Arizona (on the Western side), the flora is unique… to say the least. I’d also recommend the Sonoran Desert Museum in Tucson and a ‘hearty Thank You’ for your very kind support to what I submit as well.
