The art print I wanted to feature today is from my Hot Air Balloon Collection titled “The Red and Yellow Balloon”. The print is of a bright red and yellow hot air balloon as it lifts off the ground in flight. It is done with a whimsical abstract drawing and watercolor technique highlighting the bright colors of the balloon envelope.
The sunset hot air balloon rides are very popular in San Diego. Because of the ocean breezes, that area is known for sunset flights. It’s not unusual almost any time of year to see up to 10-12 hot air balloons dot the sky during this time of day. The most prominent thing to see is the bright colors of the balloons against the blue sky. This collection celebrates the shapes and colors of the balloons during all processes of preparation and flight. This particular print is my interpretation of the bright colors and the classic shape of a hot air balloon. I used an abstract drawing technique to create the suggestion of the balloon and then bright watercolors for the visual impact. I love the pockets of color as they circle the balloon creating massive stripes. For this balloon it is the bright red starting at the top with brilliant yellow below it. Pockets of other colors complete the balloon. This type of art print would work very well in a modern or contemporary interior design, as it becomes the visual focal point of a wall with the intensity of the colors. Thoughts?
